Opening weekend of Tenet draws audiences back to cinemas

Christopher Nolan’s highly anticipated action-thriller, Tenet, drove audiences to return to Australian cinemas in high numbers over the weekend, with around 236,000 movie-lovers attending various films on the big screen.

Despite social distancing measures influencing cinema capacity, the film prompted a strong audience return, with admits surpassing Val Morgan forecasts by 15%. The admission numbers are the highest since cinemas reopened across most of Australia, with week-on-week attendance on track to increase by 26%.

Val Morgan cinema network braces for blockbuster relaunch

As cinemas begin reopening, Val Morgan has announced its cinema network is scheduled to be active across the country by 2 July 2020, in-line with the lifting of government restrictions.

The opening of cinemas will coincide with the school holiday period with the anticipated release of the thriller, Tenet, and Disney’s live-action Mulan.

Frozen 2 delivers record-breaking weekend

A week since becoming the highest grossing global debut of any animated film in history, Frozen 2 has smashed box office predictions in Australia, opening with an incredible $9.7M.

It has attracted an avalanche of audiences, with 587,000 people seeing it in just four days – the biggest opening weekend of any animated film in 2019.

ACES judging panel announced

The judging panel and chairperson for the 2018 ACES Awards have been announced.
