Margot Robbie makes her return in the female event film of the year.

Set to be the biggest female-led blockbuster of Q3, A Big Bold Beautiful Journey marks Margot Robbie’s return to the big screen following the cultural phenomenon of Barbie, which became the highest-grossing film of 2023 and earned over $1.4 billion globally.

This romantic-fantasy tells the imaginative and emotional story of two strangers, Sarah (Margot Robbie) and David (Colin Farrell), who meet at a mutual friend’s wedding. What begins as a chance encounter quickly transforms into something extraordinary when a surprising twist of fate sets them off on an unforgettable adventure. Described as “special, original, inspired and uplifting” by Sony Pictures CEO Tom Rothman, the film was acquired in a $50 million bidding war and is already being hailed as one of the standout female-event titles of 2025.

It joins a powerful lineup of female-led hits such as It Ends With Us, Where the Crawdads Sing and Ticket to Paradise, all of which proved the box office power of emotionally resonant storytelling for women. The film is set to index highly among women aged 25 to 54, making it a prime opportunity for brands looking to reach a high-value, emotionally engaged demographic.

It is particularly well suited to categories such as insurance, travel, retail, cosmetics and fragrance, where brand storytelling often taps into themes of aspiration, transformation and connection.

Whether it’s encouraging women to take the leap, celebrate their individuality or treat themselves to something special, the tone of this film supports positive, values-led brand storytelling.

A Big Bold Beautiful Journey releases in cinemas September 18.
