Introducing Misti, one of the many faces of Val…
Alright, spill the tea: How did you find yourself in the advertising industry, and what’s been the best part of your journey at Val Morgan Cinema so far?
To understand how I found myself in the advertising industry, we need to take a trip back to Year 12 English class, where I was deciding between a path in health sciences or the creative media industry. My teacher said to me, “Misticia, you have a name for a public figure. You could definitely sell anything with a name like that. I’d buy a pen from you.” With that confidence boost, I landed on a Bachelor of Communications, and the rest was history. I combined my immense passion for music, events and performing with multiple internships and a growing interest in marketing, advertising and media studies, which ultimately led me to the Sales Coordinator I am today.
I have loved my journey at Val Morgan so far, it's been the perfect first step into the industry. My role as a Sales Coordinator, is a unique one, as I also get to manage the local cinema production nationwide. This position has allowed me to expand my skill set across sales, admin, research and insights, as well as creative and campaign management. I’ve especially enjoyed diving into market research and leveraging index statistics to uncover insights that help drive smarter, more optimised campaign solutions.
If your morning routine were an Olympic sport, what would your gold medal event be, and how would you describe your winning strategy?
My morning routine as an Olympic sport would be the Modern Pentathlon: 5 gruling events squeezed into the shortest possible amount of time. My ability to 1. hit snooze 4 times, 2. get ready, 3. eat breakfast, 4. pack my lunch, and 5. make a coffee for the drive in 10 minutes is gold medal worthy. I love the way I push myself every morning with how much longer I can sleep in and still make it to work in plenty of time.
If you could swap lives with any movie star for a day who would it be and why?
Zendaya. Need I say more? Just imagine being one of the most beautiful women in the world, married to a superhero, an amazing actor, able to sing like an angel, and to top it off, known as one of the nicest and most humble celebrities.
If your professional growth had a fragrance, would it be a bold, invigorating scent like fresh coffee beans, a calming aroma like lavender, or something completely unexpected? Justify your choice.
My fragrance would be similar to the bubblegum in Willy Wonka, a three-course meal in one. Initially, it’s a strong essence of a triple-shot iced latte, followed by a hint of Tom Ford Black Orchid. It’s strong, powerful and determined. Finally, it’s paired with a smoky, earthy scent for an adventurous, independent note.
If the mic is being passed to you at karaoke what song are you singing?
Karaoke is truly one of my greatest fears.
As a musician on the side of my professional career, when it comes to karaoke people often ask me to sing, which I find painfully awkward, so I always try to sing bad on purpose. But when I commit to the bit a little too hard, people start wondering if I’ve lied about being a musician. It’s a very delicate balance between singing properly and underplaying my passion, so I like to go for a crowd favourite like Amy Winehouse’s Valerie, where it’s less about my turn to sing and I can blend into the audience screaming the lyrics, or Nicki Minaj’s Bed of Lies and rap every word with no focus on being in tune.
If your Teams background had a mind of its own, what whimsical scene or surreal landscape would it choose during your next virtual meeting?
My Teams background would probably appear as an array of wiggly lines, a visual representation of all the ideas bouncing around in my head. If you’ve ever had the privilege of receiving a Teams message from me, you’d know it can sometimes read like a cryptic crossword clue. I save my perfectly polished sentences for emails and clients.
