Jumanji is going out with a bang this Boxing Day.

Few franchises have reinvented themselves quite like Jumanji.

What began with the 1995 Robin Williams classic has evolved into a major action-adventure franchise, bringing the concept to a new generation while retaining the humour, spectacle and sense of chaos that made the original so memorable.

Now, Jumanji: Open World is bringing the franchise back to cinemas this Boxing Day for one last game.

Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black and Karen Gillan reunite for the final instalment of the modern Jumanji trilogy. But this time, there’s a major twist. Rather than the players being pulled into the world of Jumanji, Jumanji breaks free from the console and enters the real world, unleashing the game’s chaos on an entirely new scale.

If the franchise’s history is anything to go by, audiences are ready to play.

The franchise has demonstrated remarkable consistency at the Australian box office. Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle (2017) attracted 3 million admissions and generated $48 million, while its follow-up, Jumanji: The Next Level (2019), delivered another 3 million admissions and $46 million.

That's 6 million admissions and $94 million across two consecutive instalments, a powerful demonstration of the franchise's enduring popularity and ability to consistently draw millions of Australians to the big screen.

That sustained audience appeal gives Open World a rare combination of nostalgia and contemporary relevance. Parents who remember the original can now experience the franchise alongside a generation that knows Jumanji through Johnson, Hart, Black and Gillan.

For brands, that makes Jumanji: Open World a major Boxing Day audience moment, built around globally recognised IP, broad family appeal and a proven track record of bringing millions of Australians to the big screen.

Jumanji: Open World releases in cinemas December 26.
